Fairfax Food Service’s Katie Steverson Weighs in on Food Dye Ban

An article in The Fairfax County Times featured Fairfax Food Service president and CEO, Katie Steverson, discussing the 2025 food dye ban in school lunches.

Steverson supports this initiative as a longtime advocate for healthier meals served in schools. In the article, she discusses teaching children to eat mindfully, both in what they eat, and what they avoid.

As the article notes, “In the early 2000s, Steverson added foods without color additives to her menus to encourage schools to adopt ‘mindful changes’ on students’ and school menus.”

Steverson also talked about making small changes to meals, making them healthier for kids without changing the menu. Fairfax Food Service creates healthy lunches that kids love.
